Important Information about Mail-in Ballots

Sixty four mail-in ballots arrived at the Bedford County Courthouse after the May 20 primary election.  These votes were not counted. We have a confirmed case where two ballots were mailed at the same time in the same mailbox on October 21.  One of the ballots was received at the Courthouse on October 23, and the other was received on October 29.

If you have already mailed your ballot, you can use the web site below to check whether it has been received.

If your ballot has not been received, by close of business on Monday, November 3, we recommend going to your polling place and requesting a provisional ballot.  If your mail-in ballot arrives at the elections office on election day, it will be counted.  If your ballot arrives after election day, the provisional ballot will be counted.

If your ballot HAS NOT been mailed by October 29, and you want to guarantee that your mail-in ballot is counted this election you can do one of the following.
  • Take your completed ballot to the ballot drop box near the Penn Street entrance to the courthouse and submit it there.  Information about the drop box appears to the right.  You ballot will be received by the elections office the same day.
  • Don’t fill out your mail-in ballot.  Instead, take it to your polling place on election day and turn it in.  Ask to vote by provisional ballot.  When it is verified that you did not vote with your mail-in ballot, your provisional ballot will be counted.
